Red Sox give up on John Smoltz

The Boston Red Sox have designated future Hall of Fame pitcher John Smoltz for assignment a day after Smoltz was roughed up by the New York Yankees. PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- The police arrested two Pawtucket men on charges that they stole wheels from the car of Triple-A All-Star pitcher Clay Buchholz of the Pawtucket Red Sox ... Detective Donti Rosciti said a neighbor of Buchholz's called the police at 4 a.m. Friday to report a theft in progress ... When officers arrived, they found Buchholz's 2007 BMW hoisted on bricks.
